OMNIVISION Pushes Action Cameras Beyond 18 Stops of Dynamic Range With a New 8K Sensor
A couple of months ago, we reported that the Omnivision OV50X 8K sensor was starting mass production and now the firm has given more details of its smaller 1/1.3 inch version, the OV50R in particular highlighting a claim of 18 stops of dynamic range. The smaller sensor is intended for smartphones and action cameras has dual analog gain HDR in 8K and uses three channels for HDR in 4K 60P. The higher dynamic range should allow better results in extreme contrast conditions. The sensor has 50 megapixels resolution and uses a 1.2‑micron (µm) pixel design.
Mass production will start in Q1 2026, the firm said.
