IFA 2022
Hi this is Bob Raikes from the 8k Association Monitor and I’m here in Berlin on the Samsung booth. Well, I say booth, but it’s a large hall. It’s called the CityCube where Samsung moved some years ago.
Samsung has by far the biggest presence here of any of the brands especially as Phillips and Sony are not at IFA this year, which is quite a surprise.
But turning to 8k, Samsung is very much promoting its Neo QLED 8K TVs at the show with all kinds of nice 8K content from Amazon Prime – Lord of the Rings. The company also has the “Wall” LED/ microLED solution here and it’s showing that in sizes of 79 inch and a 100 inch which will be available later this year, they told me, although reports in the press have put some doubt on that. But that’s what they’re saying here.
Those sets are just 4k and probably heading towards 100 000 euros so they are not going to be selling many. The other surprise really from Samsung is that there is very little or no promotion of the QD-OLED. We did find one but of course it’s only 4k. But it’s obvious that Samsung’s TV business likes the Neo QLED especially in 8k. Bob Raikes for the 8k Association Monitor from IFA Berlin.
