Comment – More Apple Speculation: Finally adding AV1 Support?
Despite being a member of the Alliance of Open Media, the organization behind AV1, since 2018, Apple has not yet announced support for the codec. With the launch of the M2 chip and a new global variable that appeared in Apple’s Core Media libraries, speculation is rife that this is about to change, as seen in this NeoWin article. We think this would align with the firm’s broadening support of 8K.
