8K Streaming Well Past Proof of Concept Phase
That’s exactly how Ravi Velhal, Intel’s Global Content Technology Strategist, describes the state of 8K streaming based on Intel cloud-based hardware processing in an interview in VentureBeat (Intel’s 8K HDR Internet livestreams: The future of OTT sports, entertainment, and gaming broadcasts?). He points to last summer’s streaming of 8K/60p/HDR content from the 2020 Tokyo Olympics as a prime example of what a content provider and distribution partner can now do cost-effectively. At the upcoming Infinity Festival on Nov. 2-4 in Hollywood, Velhal will describe how they created this 8K stream using the public Internet and showcase a recording of the 8K Olympics content on an 8K TV. He will talk about the Intel 8K workflow and join the Live Entertainment industry panel on Nov. 3rd at Goya Studios in LA.
The 8K Monitor has already described what Intel and partners Spin Digital and Globo did in some detail (see Intel Supports Live 8K Stream for 2020 Olympics and Globo Makes 8K Olympics Content Available VOD). The Infinity Festival Hollywood is another chance to see this impressive content in person for those who missed the invite-only event last August at the Skirball Center in Los Angeles.
Infinity Festival Hollywood is the place where Hollywood meets Silicon Valley. The festival, a multi-day annual event held in Los Angeles, celebrates “Story Enabled by Technology,” bringing together Hollywood’s finest storytelling talent with the innovative creators of Silicon Valley’s cutting-edge technology. Intel presents 2020 Retrospective “Seeing is Believing”: Intel’s 8K HDR Internet livestreams: The future of OTT sports, entertainment, and gaming broadcasts. In this demo we, Intel will be showcasing stunning 8K/60 FPS/HDR video playback and discussing end-to-end 8K/60 FPS/HDR livestreaming workflow powered by Intel, deployed during Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympics livestreaming.

Velhal is a 23-year Intel veteran who is well-known in Hollywood circles as a pioneer of VR cinema who has collaborated on high-profile projects with studios including Paramount, Sony, Universal and Warner Bros. 8K streaming is the latest cutting-edge technology he and Intel have embraced.
