The release of the HDMI 2.1 Specification means faster, smoother and more immersive experiences for movies, videos, music and gaming. It supports a range of higher video resolutions, refresh rates and other features including 8K@60 and 4K@120 and resolutions up to 10K, along with Dynamic HDR and bandwidth capability up to 48Gbps. The new spec opens the door to the next generation of audio video entertainment in a wide range of CE product categories, including home components and TVs, computers, gaming systems, AR/VR, mobile devices and cables. 100% of new TVs ship enabled with HDMI technology, and almost one billion HDMI-enabled devices are projected to ship by 2020; and now that 8K is supported in the HDMI 2.1 specification it has enabled manufacturers to move forward with this next generation of display resolution with many manufacturers already bringing products to market.
But there are several compelling features included in the 2.1 specification including support for Dynamic HDR, Enhanced Audio Return Channel (eARC), Variable Refresh Rate (VRR), Quick Media Switching (QMS), Quick Frame Transport (QFT) and Auto Low Latency Mode (ALLM). There is also a new cable that supports all the new specification’s features with bandwidth capability up to 48Gbps. This suite of enhanced display features enable the HDMI ecosystem to provide next-level product innovations and user experiences.
Rob Tobias will present explanations of these key features and their impact on the marketplace, talk about some of the new product announcements, as well as discuss the testing and compliance requirements in place to ensure a seamless and interoperable experience.
