Arri Still Working Toward 8K

In an interview with ProvideoCoalition, Art Adams & Chase Hagen of Arri explained that part of the firm’s challenge is that it uses dual data feeds from each photosite in its sensors to enable a high dynamic range (one for low light and one for highlights). This means that it has to ouput the data twice as fast as a standard ‘one-feed’ sensor. This is a key reason why it has not yet developed an 8K camera.

An 8K sensor would require 16K per readout. We’re getting there, but it takes time.

We have often reported on the issue that really great quality comes from having enough ‘high quality’ pixels and it seems positive that Arri is aiming to achieve that when it does get to 8K (Editor)
