Apple Brings Thunderbolt 5 to Mac

We first reported on Thunderbolt 5 in November 2022 and Intel thought at the time that products with the technology would be available in 2023, but Apple has just become (as far as we know) the first to release production products with the interface. Intel officially released the spec a year ago and announced processors with support at CES. Although Thunderbolt 5 theoretically supports dual 8K 60P displays, Apple is supporting one 8K and one 6K display on some of the new M4-based Mac Mini PCs, an 8K or 4K external monitor on the MacBooks. The models with version 5 are:

• Mac Mini with M4 Pro Chip (M4 versions are Thunderbolt 4)
• MacBook Pro with M4 Pro or M4 Max

Some early reports suggested that the Mac Mini machines supported 8K 120Hz, but this was later corrected to 60Hz.
