An 8K display just 1.5mm wide?

An article in Nature describes a tiny – really tiny display made in a research lab in China that achieved a pixel size of down to 3.5 microns. That in itself is extremely impressive, but even more surprising is that the LEDs, made using perovskite materials, maintain high efficiency even at that small size. Conventional microLEDs tend to suffer from a very high drop of efficiency when going below 10 microns in edge size. The researchers said that they had made LEDs as small as 90nm which would mean a display with 127,000 pixels per inch. At that density, you could make an 8K monochome display just 1.5mm wide! Perfect for headsets.
